Jamshedpur, March 30: The brutal rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Kusumba village of Vishnugarh block in Hazaribagh district has ignited widespread outrage across Jharkhand, drawing sharp political reactions and protests.
On Monday, the BJP Jamshedpur Mahanagar Mahila Morcha staged a demonstration outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Jamshedpur. Led by Mahila Morcha president Neelu Machhua, the protest was joined by Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu and BJP district president Sanjeev Sinha. Party workers raised slogans against the state government, alleging deterioration in law and order. A memorandum addressed to the Governor was submitted through the Deputy Development Commissioner, seeking immediate arrest of the accused, stringent punishment, and justice for the victim’s family.
Speaking at the protest, MLA Purnima Sahu criticized the Hemant Soren government, alleging that rising crime reflects administrative failure. She said the minor had gone out during festive celebrations when she was allegedly abducted, assaulted, and murdered. Calling the incident deeply disturbing, Sahu said it highlighted serious concerns over women’s safety in the state.
She further pointed to institutional gaps, claiming that bodies such as the State Women’s Commission and Child Protection Commission have remained ineffective, leading to delays in justice. She demanded a fast-track trial, capital punishment for those responsible, Rs 50 lakh compensation for the victim’s family, and adequate security for them.
BJP district president Sanjeev Sinha also questioned the administration’s response, stating that the accused remain at large days after the incident. He criticized officials for not visiting the victim’s family and termed it a sign of insensitivity. He warned that the party would launch a phased agitation if prompt action is not taken.
Mahila Morcha president Neelu Machhua alleged that crimes against women are increasing in Jharkhand and called for stronger measures to ensure safety and justice.
The incident has intensified political pressure on the state government, with growing demands for swift action and accountability.
