Jamshedpur, July 20: Jamshedpur police have arrested a minor for waving the Palestine flag during a Muharram procession in the Jugsalai area on the night of July 16. The incident came to light after a video of the event went viral on social media, prompting swift action from local authorities.
Following his arrest, the minor underwent a medical examination on Saturday before being presented in court. He was subsequently sent to a juvenile home. During questioning, the youth revealed that he had been inspired to wave the Palestine flag after viewing numerous social media reels. He also stated that he stopped his actions when fellow participants in the procession intervened.
The case was registered at Jugsalai police station based on a statement by Magistrate Prem Prakash Hembram. The charges include attempting to disturb the peace and disobeying orders. Police identified the minor from the viral video footage before making the arrest.
This incident highlights the growing influence of social media on youth and the sensitive nature of displaying international symbols during religious processions.
