Jamshedpur: The Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum Amit Kumar on Wednesday pulled up administration and police officials for the deteriorating law and order situation in the city and directed them to put reins on criminals at every cost.
The move by the district administration comes in the wake of the displeasure shown by the state Food and Consumer Affairs minister Saryu Roy over the law and order situation in the city. Roy in a public hearing held yesterday had announced that he would quit the government if the situation did not improve soon.
Addressing the meeting, the DC directed district officials to put up boards identifying government lands in the notified areas of Mango and Jamshedpur as well as in Jugsalai Municipality area. He said a videography of the lands so earmarked should also be done.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the action taken by the excise department against dealers of illicit liquor in the district, Kumar said that slackness on part of the excise officials will not be tolerated at any cost. He asked the assistant excise commissioner to ensure that not a single drop of illicit liquor was sold in the city.
He said the excise department will be provided with adequate number of magistrates and police officers to carry out its drive against dealers of illicit liquor.
He said that intensive campaign against illicit liquor should be launched without delay all over the district. He said the excise teams should conduct raids twice every day and apprise him of the action taken. He said the excise and police officials should not just do paper work in the name of taking action against the culprits but should also book and jail the big players in the illicit liquor business.
The DC asked the SSP Anup T Mathew and SP city Prashant Anand to collect confidential inputs about criminals and recommend their ousting from the district for keeping peace in the city and ending gang war. He said those having arrest warrants issued in their names should be jailed without delay.
Kumar asked police officials to step up patrolling and take action against illegal activities such as gambling, lottery and betting.
Many district administration officials were present during the meeting.
