Mithila’s Cultural Identity a Guiding Light: Minister

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand’s Rural Development Minister, Deepika Pandey Singh, hailed Mithila’s world-class identity as a “guiding light” during the closing ceremony of a two-day event organized by the Mithila Sanskritik Parishad.

Global Recognition and Cultural Depth

Addressing the gathering, the Minister praised the Mithila community for their tireless efforts in establishing Mithila Painting on the international stage. She emphasized that Mithila represents far more than a geographical boundary; it embodies a vibrant culture, a melodic language, and deeply rooted values.

Minister Singh also celebrated the region’s famous culinary traditions, noting that the “cultural flavor” of Mithila lives on through traditional dishes like Machh-Bhat, Chura-Dahi, and Rasgulla.

Government Support and Women’s Empowerment

The Minister assured the Council that the government will positively consider their memorandum of demands. She stressed the importance of preserving Mithila’s inherent “warmth and sweetness” in modern times and specifically lauded the women of the community for organizing the ‘Anand Mela’ stalls.

Event Highlights and Honors

The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and floral tributes to the portrait of the legendary Maithili poet Vidyapati. Council President Mohan Thakur, General Secretary Dharmesh Kumar Jha, and Treasurer Ranjit Jha welcomed a host of dignitaries, including:

  • Vijay Khan: Former President, East Singhbhum District Congress.

  • Anand Bihari Dubey and Ravindra Kumar Jha (Nattu Jha).

  • Pankaj Kumar Mishra: General Manager, Bank of India.

The Council conferred the ‘Mithila Gaurav Samman’ upon several distinguished individuals for their professional contributions, including Dr. Nakul Chaudhary, Dr. Ajay Jha, Dr. Anuj Mishra, and social worker Vijay Shankar Mishra.

A Night of Maithili Art

The cultural segment, compered by Ram Sevak Thakur, featured a soul-stirring performance of Vidyapati’s compositions by artist Snigdha Jha. Other artists, including Mithilesh Mishra and Vikas Jha, delivered captivating musical and dance performances that continued late into the night, drawing language enthusiasts from across Ranchi, Hazaribagh, and Jamshedpur.
