Jamshedpur: The newly constructed hospital at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College in Dimna Chowk is set to commence operations by January 31, following strict instructions from the Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Ajay Singh. The OPD of the old MGM Hospital in Sakchi will be relocated to this new facility. Preparations are in full swing under the leadership of MGM Principal Dr. Diwakar Hansda and Superintendent Dr. Shikha Rani.
Work for the relocation was initially scheduled to begin on January 15 but has faced delays, prompting the Health Secretary to reiterate his directive. Dr. Shikha Rani confirmed, “Efforts are being intensified to ensure the hospital is operational by the stipulated time. Floor-wise work plans from L&T, the construction firm, are being implemented swiftly.”

Specialist doctors to be appointed
In a related development, specialist doctors will be appointed in East Singhbhum district to strengthen the healthcare workforce. An interview for pediatricians, anesthesiologists, gynecologists, orthopedists and surgeons has been scheduled for January 22 at the Sub-Divisional Hospital auditorium in Ghatshila.
“All candidates have been instructed to bring their bio-data, original educational certificates and two sets of photocopies to the venue by 12 noon,” said a health department official. These appointments will be made under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, with a maximum age limit of 65 years for candidates.
Benefits for patients
The operationalization of the new hospital is expected to provide significant relief to patients. Modern facilities, combined with the deployment of specialist doctors, will enhance healthcare delivery in the region.
Dr. Hansda remarked, “The new hospital will offer better infrastructure and advanced medical care, marking a major improvement in the district’s healthcare services. Once the OPD shifts, patients will experience a smoother and more efficient system.”
The takeover process for the new facility will begin on January 17, ensuring all preparations are completed on time. The initiative is poised to be a milestone in improving public health services in Jamshedpur.
