Ranchi, April 1: With the onset of April, heat wave has struck Jharkhand, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue an alert across several districts. The Ranchi-based meteorological center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a special bulletin on Monday, April 1, forecasting prevailing heat wave conditions in many parts of the state.
In a specific warning for Kolhan Region, the met center highlighted the likelihood of heat waves in three districts commencing April 4, 2024. Seraikela-Kharsawan, East Singhbhum, and West Singhbhum districts are expected to experience intense heat spells, as per the Meteorological Department.
The alert has been extended to April 5, 2024, indicating consecutive days of heat wave conditions in the three districts. The warning enunciates potential challenges that residents may face and emphasizes the importance of taking necessary precautions.
The alert comes on the heels of recent disruptive weather events, including rain and strong winds, which wreaked havoc in several districts on March 30 and 31. Incidentally, two fatalities were reported in Dhanbad and Latehar due to the adverse weather conditions, which also resulted in prolonged power outages and disruption of daily routines.
The aftermath of the storm saw widespread damage, with hundreds of fallen branches and roofs blown away from houses across different districts. Train operations were also impacted, particularly in Parsabad and Koderma, due to overhead wire breakage.
As Jharkhand braces for the sweltering heat ahead, the Meteorological Department’s alert underscores the importance of vigilance and precautionary measures among the residents of Jharkhand.
