Jamshedpur: In a significant step towards breaking taboos and spreading awareness around menstrual health, social organization YUVA (Youth Unity for Voluntary Action), in collaboration with Girls First Fund, celebrated World Menstrual Hygiene Day across several villages in the Potka block, including Gomiasai, Champi, Sangram, Chardih, Tangrain, Jojo Dih, and Sidirsai.
The initiative aimed to challenge deep-rooted social stigmas associated with menstruation and to equip adolescent girls and women with accurate information and the confidence to manage menstrual health with dignity. The campaign emphasized the importance of creating a safe, clean, and supportive environment for menstruating individuals.
A large number of adolescent girls and women participated enthusiastically in the programs. Through drawing competitions, slogan-writing activities, and interactive awareness sessions, participants boldly voiced their stand against societal myths and misconceptions. Their creative expressions sent out a clear and empowering message: menstruation is a natural biological process, and there is no shame in discussing it openly.
The event served as a platform for participants to share experiences, ask questions, and learn about hygienic practices and health management during menstruation. Resource persons also highlighted the significance of menstrual hygiene in maintaining overall reproductive health.
The success of the campaign was largely supported by the efforts of youth leaders Avanti Sardar, Reela Sardar, Chandrakala Munda, Khela Ram, Kiran Sardar, and Shruti Sardar, who played an instrumental role in mobilizing the community and ensuring effective outreach.
