Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu requested immediate intervention from the National Commission for Women regarding an alleged assault. A police wireless operator reportedly raped a woman inside Gamharia police station.
Sahu described the incident as deeply disturbing. She stated that allegations against law enforcement raise serious questions about women’s safety and police functioning.
The lawmaker urged the commission to take suo moto cognizance of the matter. She demanded an impartial, transparent, and time-bound investigation into the incident.
Sahu requested authorities to secure CCTV footage and crucial evidence immediately. She emphasized preventing any tampering or destruction of records from the police station premises.
The victim requires adequate protection and legal assistance throughout the investigation. Sahu insisted that authorities must prioritize the victim’s safety and well-being.
Suspending and arresting the accused alone will not be sufficient. Sahu demanded strict legal and departmental action against any negligent or complicit police personnel.
Women should feel safe seeking justice inside police stations rather than facing exploitation. Sahu stated that shielding the guilty or suppressing evidence remains completely unacceptable.
The MLA appealed to the commission to ensure accountability at every level. She requested concrete recommendations to prevent such incidents from recurring.
Crimes committed by law enforcement personnel create grave concern for society. Sahu called for swift actions to restore public confidence in the police establishment.
