Manipal Tata Medical College hosts workshop on forensic training for Jamshedpur police

Jamshedpur, Jan 19: Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology at Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC) hosted training workshop titled “Comprehensive Training Workshop on Medicolegal Autopsy and Firearm Injuries for police officers.” One-day program brought together expertise and innovation to enhance the skills of law enforcement officers in critical areas of forensic investigation.

The workshop provided specialized training for 30 police officers, equipping them with practical knowledge in medicolegal autopsy, interpretation of firearm injuries, investigation of asphyxia cases, and crime scene analysis. Recognizing the importance of hands-on learning, the department created four artificial crime scenes within the state-of-the-art Skills Lab. These simulations offered participants an immersive experience, replicating real-life scenarios to hone their investigative acumen.

Rishabh Trivedi, IPS officer of the 2022 batch, actively participated in the workshop, underscoring its significance in bridging the gap between forensic science and law enforcement. Kumar Shivashish, SP-City, Jamshedpur who participated  as the chief guest in the valedictory function highlighted the critical role of such training in enhancing investigative precision and ensuring justice delivery. Three forensic experts, under the guidance of their Dean- Dr Pradeep Kumar G, from MTMC served as faculty during the event namely Dr. Vijay Kautilya, Dr. Jyotish Guria and Dr. Daideepya Bhargava.

Their collective expertise and tailored approach ensured that each officer gained valuable insights into both theoretical and practical aspects of forensic science.

The training also delved into firearm injuries, a critical aspect of modern forensic investigation, enabling officers to accurately interpret ballistic evidence and reconstruct crime scenarios. Participants praised the workshop for its interactive methodology and real-world applications.

This initiative reflects MTMC’s commitment to fostering partnerships between forensic science and law enforcement agencies. By empowering police officers with advanced knowledge and skills, the workshop contributes significantly to improving criminal justice outcomes and ensuring community safety.
