Manipal Tata Medical College: Experts focus on future of forensic medicine 

Jamshedpur, April 15: A three-day seminar on “Ensuring the future of forensic medicine and toxicology through curricular innovation and its practical utility” jointly with Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Manipal Tata Medical College, Jamshedpur and Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi Conferences were held, in which the latest advances and innovations were discussed.

The event was organized by Dr. Vijay Kautilya, HOD, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, MTMC, Jamshedpur and Dr. Bhupendra Singh, Chairman EFMICON 2023, Ranchi.

A special word of blessing was given by Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M.D., Vice Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Posted by Venkatesh.

Keshav Kumar, Former DGP Gujarat, was present on the occasion as the chief guest of the inaugural function. He said that it was indeed an integral conference as it brought together the stakeholders on a single platform for the first time in Eastern India. He praised Manipal Tata Medical College for laying the foundation of an innovative alliance of law enforcement agencies to strengthen the justice delivery system for the citizens at large. With the huge emphasis on forensic investigation by the government, there cannot be a better time than now to chart a new path in the forensic interface domain in crime investigation.

The inaugural function was also attended by Professor RK Singh, Vice Chancellor, Patliputra University, Patna as the guest of honour. He appreciated the event and offered to collaborate with Manipal Tata Medical College, Jamshedpur for future academic ventures.

The conference focused on the need to update the curriculum of forensic medicine and toxicology to keep pace with the latest advancements and equip students with practical skills that they can use in their future careers. Experts highlighted the importance of collaboration between universities and forensic laboratories to expose students to real-world scenarios and the latest techniques and equipment used in forensic medicine and toxicology.

The conference also emphasized the role of technology in the fields of forensic medicine and toxicology, including the use of DNA analysis and digital forensics. The experts discussed the latest trends and advancements in these areas and shared their views on how they can be incorporated in the curriculum to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter to the students.

Apart from academic discussions, the conference also included practical demonstrations and workshops, where students got an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various areas of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology. The participants got to interact with experts in the field and learn about the latest techniques and tools used in forensic investigation.

On 15th April 2023, a practical workshop on “Crime Scene Investigation” for 25 police personnel of East Singhbhum district. was conducted. Mr. Keshav Kumar, former DGP, Gujarat was present as the chief guest in the event. Prabhat Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police. East Singhbhum and Vijay Shankar, SP Jamshedpur were also present during the event as guests of honor. The hands-on workshop was conducted by 7 eminent experts in forensic medicine from all over India. Three simulated crime scenes were created for the training of police personnel. 50 students of Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University and other representatives also participated in the workshop. A model making competition was also organized for the undergraduate medical students. About 40 teams participated in the competition.

The conference consisted of a wide range of academic sessions, including presentations of original research, poster presentations and oral presentations for scientific sessions. Awards were given to the top oral and poster presentations in the concluding session of the conference. dr. Pradeep Kumar, Dr. Sunita Tripathi, Dr. Rajeev Dwivedi, Dr. H.C.
