Jamshedpur: One Raja Das, resident of Chhayanagar, Bhuiyandih, drowned in River Swarnarekha near Bhuiyandih on Sunday. His wife, Vima Das, survived in the incident, police said.
Sources said the deceased, a contract worker at Tata Main Hospital, had gone to bathe in the river along with his wife. He entered the river and decided to go further to take bath. Not knowing how to swim, he soon started drowning.
Eventually he succumbed to his futile efforts to come out of the river. His wife tried to save her, but failed to do so. She swam out of water later to seek help of local divers.
Police searched for the body of the deceased with the help of local divers, but could not find the body till late evening.
