Man axes his wife, two kids in Purulia, attempts suicide

Purulia, March 28: In a shocking incident, a man butchered his wife and two kids in Rangamati village of Manihara panchayat under Kashipur police station area here on Monday. After committing the heinous crime, he attempted suicide by consuming poison and was hospitalized later by police.

Sources said the incident took place late Sunday night when the accused picked up an axe and attacked his own family reportedly in an inebriated condition. The deceased were identified as Mamata Mahato (32), Debjit Mahato (6) and Priya Mahato (3).

Taken aback by the incident, Nepal Chandra Mahato, Mamata’s father and a resident of Chakra village under Purulia Muffasil PS, lodged an FIR against his son-in-law. He alleged that his son-in-law often remained in a drunken state and that he had killed his daughter and grand children last night.

Raghunathpur SDPO Ajay Ganpani reached the crime scene and began investigation into the incident.

SP Purulia S Selvamurugan said the police investigation was on and very soon the cause of the ghastly incident would be revealed.
