Major corruption alleged in PMAY-U construction in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: A case of corruption has come to light in the flats being built in the housing society being prepared in Birsanagar in Jamshedpur under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Urban) (PMAY-U). Jharkhand state BJP spokesperson and former MLA Kunal Shadangi exposed irregularities and corruption during a surprise inspection. A total of 9,592 houses are being constructed in 32 blocks in line with the G+8 Structure of Affordable Housing Project in Jamshedpur. In which the construction work of 7,372 houses has been started so far.
According to reports, in the first phase, 3,836 beneficiaries, in the second phase, 834 beneficiaries and in the third phase, 696 beneficiaries have completed the documentary process of housing allocation through lottery. At the same time, construction of housing (flat) is also going on in full swing. The local administration had set the target of allocating some of them to the beneficiaries by Diwali, but now it is uncertain when the beneficiaries will get their home.

The objective of this scheme of the Central government is to meet the housing needs of the urban poor. One of the ambitious schemes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this scheme is aimed at providing housing to the poor. Beneficiaries who have been allotted housing in the lottery were constantly complaining about the quality of construction. On the request of the beneficiaries and local BJP leaders, former MLA Kunal Shadangi conducted a surprise inspection of the construction site along with local BJP leaders and party workers on Sunday.
Several irregularities and corruption have come to light during a surprise inspection of the under-construction PM Residence (Urban) in Birsanagar. During the inspection, Kunal Shadangi first questioned the poor quality black bricks and second-rate construction materials being used in the construction. At the same time, Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri and Special Officer of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) Sanjay Kumar were informed about the irregularities and urged to take action.

Sarangi demanded that action should be taken after investigation against those involved in corruption in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project. He demanded immediate blacklisting of negligent inspectors and monitoring of the quality of construction work. The former MLA urged the Deputy Commissioner to conduct a surprise inspection of the construction of the PM Awas Yojana, so that action can be taken against the culprits.
