Jamshedpur, April 23 : The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre at Ranchi has issued a detailed weather bulletin indicating a sharp interplay of heat and impending thunderstorm activity across Jharkhand over the next five days.

Current Weather Snapshot:

Jharkhand continues to reel under intense heat, with several locations recording temperatures well above normal. Daltonganj emerged as the hottest place in the state at 43.2°C, followed closely by Chaibasa (43.0°C), Jamshedpur (42.8°C), and Bokaro (42.1°C). Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 38.9°C.
Minimum temperatures also remained on the higher side, with Jamshedpur at 26.4°C, while Ranchi recorded 23.2°C.
Notably, no rainfall was recorded across all major observatories during the period.
Automated Weather Stations (AWS) data further confirmed the prevailing heat conditions, with Saraikela touching 43.2°C, Bokaro at 41.4°C, and Godda at 40.4°C, reinforcing the widespread heat stress across districts.
Forecast & Alerts (April 24–28):

April 24:

Thunderstorm and lightning with gusty winds (30–40 kmph) likely at isolated places over eastern Jharkhand.

Heat wave conditions expected in south-eastern districts, including Saraikela, East Singhbhum, and West Singhbhum.

April 25:

Thunderstorm/lightning with stronger gusts (40–50 kmph) likely over north-eastern, southern, and central parts of the state.

April 26:

Intensification of weather activity expected.

Hailstorm accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds (50–60 kmph) likely over north-eastern and adjoining central regions.

Rest of the state may witness thunderstorms with winds of 40–50 kmph.

April 27:

Similar conditions to persist.
Hailstorm risk continues over north-eastern and nearby central areas, with strong winds up to 60 kmph.

Thunderstorm activity expected across remaining regions.

April 28:

Thunderstorm and lightning with gusty winds (40–50 kmph) likely at isolated places across Jharkhand.

Outlook: Heat to Ease, Storms to Dominate

The forecast suggests that while heat wave conditions may persist briefly, especially in the south-eastern belt, increasing thunderstorm activity from April 25 onwards is likely to bring gradual relief.
However, the accompanying risks of lightning, strong winds, and hailstorms pose potential hazards.
Residents are advised to remain alert, avoid open areas during lightning activity, and take precautions against heat exposure as well as sudden weather changes.
This evolving weather pattern highlights a classic pre-monsoon transition phase, where oppressive heat gives way to volatile storm systems across eastern India.
