Madhu Koda discusses Kiriburu and Meghatuburu lease renewal

Chaibasa, July 27: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda held a meeting with the DFOs (Divisional Forest Officers) of Saranda, Chaibasa, and Porahat to discuss the lease renewal of Kiriburu and Meghatuburu iron ore mines. Special attention was paid on addressing problems of residents of these localities.

Madhu Koda made it clear that the renewal process should be carried out without displacing the residents from their homes and shops. He insisted on finding a viable solution that did not have a negative impact on the livelihood of the people. He suggested that benefits of government development schemes should be put to use for generating employment and income avenues through forest produce.

The meeting deliberated on the implementation of previous initiatives taken by the district administration and forest department. Suggestions were made to open purchase and sale centers for forest produce, encouraging the locals and promoting self-employment.

The losses caused by herds of wild elephants that destroyed crops, houses and other properties of people, came in for discussions. Koda demanded compensation for crop losses caused by wild animals to mitigate the hardships faced by farmers. Madhu Koda focused on providing support to social forestry, increasing the number of nurseries and simplifying the process of commercial and private use of trees planted on the land of farmers.
