Jamshedpur, July 10: The prestigious Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Debate Competition concluded on Monday, leaving a lasting impression on participants and spectators alike. Held annually in honour of the late Frank Anthony, a renowned educationist and parliamentarian, the event brought together some of the brightest young minds from schools across the city, who displayed exceptional oratory skills and intellectual prowess.

The Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Debate Competition is held in honour of Frank Anthony, founder of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).
DBMS English School aced the debate by winning the prize for the Best Team. Priyanshu Kundu was adjudged the Best Speaker and Demirra Oshon bagged the 1st Runner-Up Speaker’s position. The 1st Runner-Up Team was Carmel Junior College. Both these teams will go for the next level (Zonal Round).

This year, Loyola School hosted the debate for Pool B-17 at the Category 2, Stage 1 Level. The Debate saw participation of 9 teams namely LFS, St. Anthony’s Academy, KPS Kadma, KPS Gamharia, JH Tarapore, SKPS, Carmel Junior College, Loyola School Bhubaneswar and DBMS English School which were engaged in an impressive exchange of words on the topic, Facebook Friends Have Become More Real Than Real Friends .

The three eminent judges for the day were Dr. Shantanu Chakrabarty, Sumita Maniktala and Dr. Sujata Mitra, the moderator being Shamita Ahuja. Dr. Shantanu Chakrabarty, a mechanical engineer by profession and a Ph.D from Cranfield University, England, is a debater of repute. Sumita Maniktala, the proprietor of Sumita Maniktala Associates, which has produced award-winning internal communication newsletter for a leading corporate house for over 20 years, is an independent communications professional and consultant.

Dr. Sujata Mitra, Director, MTMH has published more than 25 papers in national and international journals. She is the author of ‘Thyroid Disorders’ published by Jaypee Publishers. Shamita Ahuja is a well known English teacher and an outstanding speaker.
Father Principal Vinod Fernandes delivered the welcome address following which the moderator took over. The event marked a kaleidoscope of opinions, thoughts, ideas and perspectives. The judges appreciated the sincere efforts of the participants.

Students representing various schools passionately presented their viewpoints on a wide range of topics, including climate change, gender equality, artificial intelligence, and the role of social media in society. The competition witnessed spirited and intellectually stimulating debates, with participants exhibiting their deep understanding of the subjects and presenting well-researched arguments.
