Locals squat on tracks, train services hit on Chandil-Adra section

Jamshedpur : Following agitation of local people, train services on the Chandil-Adra section of South Eastern Railway (SER) was hit on Monday. The agitation took place at Kustaur railway station, which falls under Adra division.

Railway sources said the local people staged demonstration, demanding stoppage for important trains and improving other passenger amenities at 6 am. The agitators sat on the tracks at Kustaur railway station. The agitation was continuing at the time of filing this report.

Railway authorities at Tatanagar said movement of both passenger and goods trains were affected. The Chapra-Tata Express was delayed for several hours. The train, which was scheduled to arrive Tatanagar at 6.40 am was halted for more than four hours before it was allowed to run through a diverted route via Anara, Rukhi, Bhojudih, Chandrapura, Bokaro, Kotshila, Purulia and Chandil. From Chandil the train travelled on its normal route.

While, the Dhanbad-Tata Subarnarekha Express, which was scheduled to arrive at Tatanagar railway station at11.15 am halted at Adra railway station for more than two hours before it travelled via the diverted route from Anara to Chandil railway station.

The Tata-Danapur Super Express left Tatanagar on its schedule time at 8.15 am but the train got stuck up at Chandil, about 25 Kms away from Jamshedpur. After detention for three hours at Chandil station the train was allowed to run on a diverted route through Purulia, Bokaro, Gaya and Patna.

Officials of the Chakradharpur Railway Division, with jurisdiction stretching to the 14 railway stations said several trains got delayed during the agitation.

Mahesh Tudu, an agitator said that they have been demanding stoppage of trains but still Railway has failed to take steps in this regard.

The passengers are the worst hit and they have to face trouble due to lack of trains.

�We also demand better passenger amenities at the station and also stoppage of express trains so that the tribal passengers can receives the benefits,� noted Tudu.
