Land Dealer Shot in Broad Daylight Over Extortion in Kapali

Seraikela: Unidentified gunmen shot a land dealer in broad daylight on Tuesday near Kapali in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, triggering panic among local residents. The attack took place near the Mango border of Jamshedpur.

Rescuers rushed the injured businessman, identified as Afsar Nawaz—a resident of Zakirnagar Road No. 20 under Mango police station limits—to a hospital in critical condition, where doctors are currently treating him.

The Confrontation and Shooting

Nawaz had recently purchased a plot of land in Ward No. 5 of Kapali. While he was supervising construction work at the site, three youths approached him and demanded extortion money. The accused threatened the construction labourers and forced them to flee the area.

When Nawaz opposed their demands, one of the youths pulled out a pistol and opened fire. One bullet pierced Nawaz’s leg while another grazed his head, causing him to collapse and sparking chaos at the site. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Police Launch Investigation and Manhunt

Upon receiving the alert, Kapali OP police rushed to the scene and launched an investigation. Officers recovered two spent cartridges from the spot and initiated a search operation to track down the attackers.

“We are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to trace the movements of the attackers,” a police official stated. “Preliminary findings indicate an extortion link, though investigators are exploring all possible angles before reaching a conclusion.”

Growing Concerns Over Law and Order

The brazen attack has raised serious concerns about law and order in the rapidly growing urban area. Anxious local residents highlighted the rise in criminal activities and demanded strict action against the perpetrators.

In response, police officials assured the public that they would soon identify and arrest the culprits. Additionally, authorities are reviewing security arrangements in the area to prevent future incidents.
