Kishore Kumar Foundation celebrates 93rd birthday of legendary singer

Jamshedpur, Aug 5: Gurudev Kishore Kumar Foundation organized a function to pay tribute to the legendary filmmaker, singer, actor and director, Kishore Kumar at his birth place, Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh on the occasion of his 93rd birth anniversary.

Madhya Pradesh government has decided to observe the late artiste’s birth anniversary as Khandwa Gaurav Diwas from this year. Foundation President Sushant Kumar Hazra and well-known announcer Krishnakant Ojha participated in the event organized jointly by Khandwa Municipality and Kishore Sanskritik Prerna Manch.

After the tributes that were paid by his fans at the Samadhi, Kishore Kumar’s immortal songs were rendered by singers who stated that rheir inspiration came from the legend’s songs rendered in various modes – right from the light numbers to serious and emotional renditions. In the evening a programme was organized by the local administration at Gauri Kunj. Top officials of the local administration and other artistes made the atmosphere livelier.
Jamshedpur’s Sushant Hazra set the tone of the celebrations by rendering Kishore Kumar’s song, ‘Chanda-O-Chanda’ picturized on Mahmood in the film, ‘Lakhon Mein Ek.’ KK Ojha, the popular anchor, conducted the programme. Ojha said that the people’s affection for legendary Kishore Kumar could be felt at the singer’s native place in Khandwa. Singers across the country paid tributes to Kishore Kumar on the occasion of his 93rd birth anniversary. During their visit to the ancestral home of Kishore Kumar, Gauri Kunj Ganguly House in Khandwa, they met the caretaker, Sitaram who said that he would write a letter to the Madhya Pradesh government and urge for repairs to this heritage abode of the Ganguly family. They also visited Lala Ji’s hotel to taste Kishore Kumar’s favourite, Doodh –Jalebi.

A demand was made to confer Bharat Ratna Award posthumously to the genius that Kishore Kumar was.
