KPS Kadma Earns National Spotlight in Climate Action Initiative CTCAC

KPS Trust Leads National Student Climate Movement

Jamshedpur: The Kerala Public School Trust, in collaboration with Rotary District 3250, TERRE Policy Centre, and SrishtiZens, hosted an award ceremony at Panchgani for a national initiative: “Classrooms to Climate Action Crusaders (CTCAC).” The event drew participation from 78 schools across India, marking a significant milestone in student-led climate action.

Mindset and Action

Inspired by James Gustave Speth’s insight—that human apathy and selfishness, rather than technological gaps, drive environmental crises—the initiative targets mindset and education. CTCAC moves beyond conventional awareness programs. It provides a structured, action-driven platform where students contribute to sustainability.

The initiative, launched in July 2025 and concluded in December 2025, transformed participating schools into dynamic hubs for environmental action and community engagement. Students used a framework of monthly reporting and geo-tagged documentation to execute measurable sustainability projects within their campuses and neighborhoods. An expert jury evaluated these projects through two rigorous rounds to ensure credibility and excellence. From this national pool, ten schools emerged as finalists, reflecting exceptional innovation and leadership.

A Vision for Sustainability

Vijayam Kartha, Founder Director of Kerala Public School Trust, stands at the heart of this movement. Her vision for value-based education and environmental responsibility drove the creation of CTCAC. She continues to champion the belief that schools must nurture conscious citizenship alongside academic excellence.

The initiative anchors itself in a powerful vision: every school in India must evolve into a community hub that fosters a sustainable planet. CTCAC promotes collaborative models, fosters community engagement, and nurtures empathetic student leadership to drive a transformation rooted in compassion and mindfulness.

Director Sharat Chandran reflected on the initiative’s necessity: “CTCAC is about unleashing classrooms to a greater cause—helping children realise the power they hold, individually and collectively, to drive meaningful transformation.”

Recognizing Excellence

The final award ceremony takes place from April 17th to 19th, 2026, at Asia Plateau. This venue, synonymous with leadership and reflection, celebrates the outstanding efforts of the participating schools.

To encourage excellence, the initiative features national awards of ₹1,00,000, ₹75,000, ₹50,000, and ₹25,000. The trust also offers special recognition for:

  • Innovative student-led solutions.
  • Environmental conservation rooted in Indian traditions.
  • Impactful parent-led initiatives.
  • Compelling case studies.

While all participants received certificates, the top contributors earned trophies and certificates of excellence.
