Karim City College to host international symposium on radio

Jamshedpur, March 17: Department of Mass Communication, Karim City College is going to organize an international symposium – ‘Reviewing the World of Radio’ to celebrate 100 years of Radio Broadcasting. 

Under the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, this three-day event will be organized from March 18 to March 20, in which the role of radio in the journey and development of the last one century will be discussed. This international symposium is being organized in hybrid mode, that is, the speakers and paper presenters participating in this symposium will connect through online medium as well as physically participate in the programme.

Giving information about the international seminar, the principal of the college, Dr. Mohammad Riaz said that this international seminar is being organized by the Department of Mass Communication and the convener of this international seminar is Dr. Neha Tiwari, Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Senior Assistant Professor of the English Department.

It is noteworthy that this year, 100 years of the beginning of radio broadcasting are being completed in India. It was started in June of 1923. More or less in this time, radio was started in almost all the countries of the world. Since then till today radio has been an important part of our life. This centenary innings of radio is being celebrated in the form of an international seminar in which the characteristics of radio, its connection with life, its role in any country as a medium of mass communication, preservation and promotion of culture, especially radio in the Indian context. Topics like the role of radio and the changing avatar of radio and future prospects of growing FM, community radio and podcasts will be discussed.

Dr. Neha Tiwari, the convener of this international seminar, said that this is the first seminar of its kind across the country, in which the listening-based medium Radio and its various formats and programs are being discussed exclusively. In this international seminar, big names related to media education and radio are participating from the country and abroad. Mrs. Renu Chaturvedi, famous as Assistant Director (Programme) and excellent administrator of national channel Vividh Bharti, known as Bua, famous news reader Chandrika Joshi, who lived in Japan and served for India, producer of international level sports programs and Lucknow Akashvani and Doordarshan’s Assistant Director Anupam Pathak, Dr. Martin Gangsinger, Professor, University of Morocco, Dr. Sergio Ricardo, Professor, Argentina, RJ Vasan from South Africa, Mrs. A. Brar, Program Presenter, SBS Radio from Melbourne, Australia, Senior Assistant Professor, Guru Gobind Singh University and German University’s visiting faculty Kulveen Trehan, Vividh Bharti’s program presenter Mamta Singh, famous radio program presenter Yunus Khan with special voice, and Bihar, Jharkhand and East Uttar Pradesh cluster head Shadab Hashmi will speak.

It should be known that about 70 research papers have been received from all over the world, in which researchers from the states of India like Delhi, Karnataka, Bihar, Punjab, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Puducherry are involved. And talking about foreign countries, research papers have come from South Africa, Ethiopia, Morocco, Argentina, Malaysia, Doha, America and UK.

Dr. Bacha Babu, Head of Mass Communication, Central University of Jammu as Chair of the Technical Section, Dr. Devvrat Singh, Head of Mass Communication, Central University of Jharkhand, Dr. Sanjeev Bhanawat, Senior Retired Head of Department, University of Rajasthan, Senior Writer and Various Panelists of All India Radio Professor Dr. C. Bhaskar Rao, well-known writer and critic Associate Professor Dr. Vijay Sharma will be involved.

Dr. Snehasish Sur, Senior Broadcast Journalist from Kolkata and President of Press Club of Kolkata, will deliver the keynote address in the inaugural session. His talk will be based on ‘Early Days of Radio Broadcasting in India’. After this, Mr. Shahid Anwar, an international level sports broadcaster and associated with the Department of Mass Communication for the last two decades, will present an audio presentation ‘Awaaz Ka Safar’ on the journey of 100 years of All India Radio. Mr. Chinmoy Mahato has been specially invited for the inaugural session who has created an international organization of radio listeners and has also created an unprecedented museum of about 500 radios.
