Karim City College Jamshedpur showcases film and tourism innovations

Jamshedpur: As part of the World Tourism Day ( September 27), Karim City College’s Mass Communication Department organised a program that spotlighted Jharkhand’s untapped tourism potential, while unveiling exciting announcements for the future of local cinema. The event, attended by prominent tourism experts and film industry professionals, became a platform for powerful discussions and major revelations.

The day began with an inspiring address from Dr. Mohammad Riyaz, Principal of Karim City College, who highlighted Jharkhand’s immense natural beauty, positioning it as a future hub for eco-tourism. “Jharkhand’s environment is not just a resource, it’s a treasure trove of opportunities for sustainable tourism,” he said, welcoming  Saurav Sao, Tourism Expert of Saraikela,  Manish Johnko, Tourism Expert of East Singhbhum,  Ankit Kumar, Project Coordinator of Swadesh Darshan Chandil, and  Deepak Kumar, Project Coordinator of East Singhbhum.

In a captivating presentation, Dr. Neha Tiwari, Head of the Mass Communication Department, underscored the role of film tourism in promoting local destinations. “Cinema has the power to transform places into tourist hotspots,” she said, linking the discussion to UNESCO’s 2024 theme of “Tourism and Peace.” Dr. Tiwari emphasized India’s growing potential as a peaceful and attractive tourism destination.

A key highlight of the event was an engaging session by  Saurav Sao, who announced upcoming tourism initiatives and introduced new concepts to students. “Tourism is not just about travel; it’s about connecting with culture, people, and the environment,” he explained, opening a lively discussion on the future of tourism in Jharkhand. Sao also hinted at new tourism projects in the region that are set to launch in the coming months, creating a buzz among students and faculty alike.

The audience was treated to the screening of the acclaimed documentary Saranda, produced by the Department of Mass Communication. The film, which features the scenic Saranda-Noamundi-Kiriburu-Hirnii tourist circuit of Jharkhand, has already garnered praise from the Jharkhand government and is expected to draw greater attention to the state’s tourism circuits.

In a major announcement, the star cast of the upcoming Nagpuri film I Love You, directed by Vishal Verma, took the stage to reveal the film’s release date of 4 October 2024, in 15 theaters across Jharkhand, followed by a nationwide release in 65 theaters, including regions like the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, where the Nagpuri language is widely spoken. “This is not just a film; it’s a cultural movement,” said Verma, thrilling the audience with the news of the first Nagpuri film to achieve such a large-scale release. Actors Vivek Nayak and Amrita Paul shared insights about their experiences, while singer Nitesh Kachhap and RJ Maurya added a local flavor to the event.

To top off the excitement, students engaged in a quiz related to the film’s trailer, with winners receiving special merchandise from the cast. Director Vivek Nayak was honored with a memento by Principal Dr. Riyaz, cementing the event as a celebration of Jharkhand’s growing influence in both tourism and film.
