Speakers stress on social participation and sensitization of all citizens

Jamshedpur: A seminar on �Child Abuse-free India� was organized at Michael John Auditorium, Bistupur, under the joint aegis of Kailash Satyarthi Children�s Foundation and various city-based organizations.
The Foundation director Om Prakash said the issue of child abuse was never included in the traditional social institutions of our country and no discussions were held on it. He said any form of violence, ill-treatment and neglect against children are included in the definition of child abuse. Child abuse is the grave violation of children�s basic human rights, he said.

Also present on the occasion, district child protection officer Dr Chanchal Kumari spoke about the various laws and their provisions pertaining to child abuse and human trafficking. She said there are 18 Bal Mitra police stations in the district. Any complaint of child abuse or trafficking of minors can be made on the helpline number 1098 round the clock, she said.
Neha Tiwary, head of Mass Communication department, Karim City College, said a state of emergency could be felt on the issues related to children. She said only talks will not help, but dynamic action is also needed. She said solutions to children�s issues will have to be brought before the society, government and judiciary in a creative and concrete manner. She further advocated strengthening children�s moral values and character.
Labour Enforcement Officer Sandeep Kumar informed the participants about government�s directives on child labour and various laws meant to prevent it. He stressed on the participation of one and all to prevent violation of labour laws meant for protection of children�s interest.
Other dignitaries who spoke at the seminar included Labour Superintendent Ramesh Prasad Singh, DSP Headquarters II Arvind Kumar, Amitabh Ghosh, Mohammad Nizam, Anjali Bose, Purbi Pal, Nirmala Shukla, Samyukta Choudhary, Kamalkant Gope and Ajay Kumar.
