CII Session on Jharkhand @ 25: Looking Forward to 2050
Jamshedpur: CII Jharkhand organised the CII Jharkhand Annual Meeting 2026 & Session on Jharkhand @ 25: Looking Forward to 2050. The session marked a significant milestone as the State commemorated 25 years of its formation while reflecting on its developmental journey and future aspirations. The discussion brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to deliberate on Jharkhand’s economic progress over the past two and a half decades and to envision a long-term roadmap for sustainable and inclusive growth. Emphasis was placed on effectively leveraging the State’s rich natural resources, enhancing industrial competitiveness, and promoting innovation-driven development as Jharkhand celebrates 25 years of statehood and looks ahead to the next 25 years of industrial and economic growth.
Varun Ranjan, IAS, Managing Director, JIIDCO & JIADA Department of Industries, Government of Jharkhand addressed the inaugural session of the CII Jharkhand Annual Meeting 2026 and the public session on “Jharkhand @ 25: Looking Forward to 2050” as the Guest of Honour. He appreciated CII Jharkhand for initiating discussions on the state’s future at a significant milestone in its development journey. Highlighting Jharkhand’s strong resource base, he noted that the state possesses around 20 of the 24 critical minerals identified under India’s Critical Minerals Mission, positioning it well to emerge as a leading manufacturing economy in the coming years. Mr Ranjan also shared that JIADA is working on several new policies and regulatory reforms, including the Industrial Area Land Acquisition Policy, Land Allotment Policy, updated JIADA Regulations, and a Joint Venture & Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy, while also developing around 3,000 acres of new industrial land to attract investments. He further highlighted initiatives for training and capacity building of MSMEs and entrepreneurs under the MSME Transformation Scheme of the RAMP programme and expressed interest in strengthening collaboration with CII to accelerate industrial development in Jharkhand.

Diloo Parikh, Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council & Director, Vaidehi Motors Pvt Ltd highlighted Jharkhand’s significant transformation over the past 25 years, from being largely known for its mineral wealth to becoming an important centre for manufacturing and industrial activity. He noted that this progress reflects the collective efforts of industry, policymakers, and communities. Looking ahead to 2050, he emphasized the need for balanced and sustainable growth, stronger collaboration between industry and institutions, and greater support for innovation, startups, and the MSME ecosystem to build a more resilient economy.

D B Sundara Ramam, Vice-Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council & Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel Limited highlighted Jharkhand’s strong industrial foundation, noting that the State holds nearly 40 per cent of India’s mineral reserves and plays a key role in the mines, steel, automobile, and MSME sectors. He emphasised that improved logistics connectivity and sustainability initiatives, particularly efforts by Jamshedpur’s steel plants to reduce carbon emissions, are strengthening the region’s industrial growth. While acknowledging the availability of skilled manpower in the State and emphasised that operationalising mines and strengthening industry-friendly governance will play a key role in generating employment and positioning Jharkhand among India’s top five states.
Ranjot Singh, Past Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council & Managing Director, Emdet Jamshedpur Pvt Ltd delivered the vote of thanks at the session. He thanked the distinguished speakers and dignitaries for sharing valuable insights on Jharkhand’s growth trajectory and appreciated the collaborative dialogue between government and industry on the state’s long-term development vision. Mr Singh highlighted that while Jharkhand has strong potential to emerge as a leading industrial and manufacturing hub, continued support from the government in ensuring strong law and order and facilitating greater land availability for industries will be critical to attracting investments and accelerating industrial growth for future.
Eminent speakers deliberated in the session remarked on some important points:
Anurag Chharia, Plant Head – Jamshedpur, Tata Motors Ltd highlighted that the automotive sector is rapidly evolving with the adoption of electric vehicles, automation, and smart manufacturing. He noted that technologies such as data analytics, digitalization, and advanced automation are transforming factory operations, improving efficiency, quality, and productivity, and will play a key role in shaping the future of manufacturing in Jharkhand.
Sanjay Sabherwal, Managing Director, Metalwork Industries Ltd noted that Jharkhand’s strong engineering and manufacturing base provides a solid platform for future growth. He emphasized the need to adopt advanced technologies and strengthen infrastructure, along with consistent policy support, to enhance the state’s global manufacturing competitiveness by 2050.
Dr Gautam Sutradhar, Director, NIT Jamshedpur emphasized the crucial role of academic institutions in building a future-ready talent ecosystem for Jharkhand. He highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between academia and industry in research, innovation, and skill development to create practical, research-driven solutions that support the state’s industrial growth.
Tapas Sahu, Managing Director & CEO, Highco Engineers Pvt Ltd highlighted the important role of MSMEs in strengthening Jharkhand’s industrial ecosystem. He emphasized the need to build stronger supply chain linkages between MSMEs and large industries, along with better access to technology, finance, and markets, to enable MSME engineering firms to actively participate in large manufacturing and infrastructure projects.
Dr. Mayank Murari, Head – PR & Media, Usha Martin Ltd highlighted the important role industry plays in community development and social impact. He emphasized that companies should actively engage with local communities through skill development initiatives, education, and livelihood opportunities to promote inclusive growth and create long-term value for both industry and society.
The CII Jharkhand Annual Meeting 2026 & Session on Jharkhand @ 25: Looking Forward to 2050 successfully brought together 210 industry delegates fostering insightful discussions on strategic collaborations for Jharkhand’s growth. The session reinforced the state’s potential in sustainability, inclusive development, and industrial competitiveness. The session highlighted the critical role of progressive policy frameworks, industry collaboration, and strong institutional support in shaping Jharkhand’s next phase of transformation. With a shared vision for economic transformation, the deliberations set the stage for actionable strategies, ensuring Jharkhand’s continued progress on the national and global front looking forward to 2050.
