RTI Union: Fill Jharkhand State Posts by April 14 or Face Protest

Jamshedpur: The Central Committee of the RTI Activist Union has issued a stern ultimatum to the Jharkhand state government: fill all vacant constitutional and statutory positions by April 14 or face a massive demonstration at Parliament House in New Delhi.

A Revolution Against Corruption

During a Central Committee meeting at the Jamshedpur Circuit House, Union President Dil Bahadur emphasized that the organization’s primary goal is to spark a “revolution against corruption” by bringing the Right to Information to every citizen.

The Union expressed deep concern over the government’s failure to appoint leadership for critical bodies, including:

  • State Information Commission

  • Lokayukta

  • Human Rights Commission

  • Women’s Commission

“The refusal to fill these seats—despite directives from the High Court and Supreme Court—violates constitutional dignity,” Bahadur stated. If the vacancies remain after the April deadline, the Union plans to seek formal intervention from the President of India.

Legal Protection for Activists

The committee also addressed the increasing threats faced by RTI workers. To ensure their safety, a high-level committee led by Sadan Kumar Thakur will immediately file a Writ Petition and a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court. This legal move aims to force administrative accountability and provide a security framework for whistleblowers.

Organizational Shake-up

To strengthen its grassroots presence, the Union will reorganize its district committees in East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, and Chaibasa by May 31. Additionally, a “Milan Samaroh” is scheduled for April 5 to honor active members for their contributions to transparency and governance.
