Jharkhand wins 48 medals as TSAF climbers shine at East Zone Sport Climbing Championship

Jamshedpur, July 20: Jharkhand has been declared the winner of the 24^th IMF East Zone Sport Climbing Championship 2022 as Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) climbers bagged 48 out of 54 medals at stake.

Aman Verma of TSAF was declared the winner in Men’s Speed, Bouldering and Lead event. Anisha Verma bagged the top prize in Women’s Speed, Bouldering and Lead event.  

The 24^th IMF East Zone Sport Climbing Championship 2022 was organized by IMF East Zone Committee in association with Tata Steel Adventure Foundation.

The 3-day event saw a participation of more than 280 athletes and 50 officials. The winners qualified for the National championship to be held from 12-14 August 2022 at Uttarkashi.

Avneesh Gupta, Vice President, Total Quality Management and Engineering & Projects, Tata Steel graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Manik Bannerjee, Chairman, Indian Mountaineering Federation East Zone Committee was the Guest of Honor for the evening.

Addressing the budding athletes, Avneesh Gupta said, “I am overwhelmed to see such a grand participation of athletes in the IMF Zonal championship. We aspire to support the holistic development of athletes to compete at national and international forums. Happy to see the performance of TSAF athletes in the event. Tata Steel is committed to provide all the support for the development of sport climbing in the country.”

The winners were given a certificate, medal, prize money and a gift hamper by the organizing Committee. Every candidate was given a certificate of participation.

Parents were happy to get a platform for their kids to showcase their climbing talent. The kids of the grass-root development centre, Masti Ki Paathshaala are gaining momentum with regular practice. TSAF aspires to send them at a larger scale to national and international forums.
