Jharkhand to be made IT-BPO hub: Union Minister

Jamshedpur, June 18: Union Minister for Communication and Information technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday said the new STPI centers at Jamshedpur and Dhanbad are a step forward to facilitate and support the dynamic entrepreneurs of Jharkhand to explore global opportunity with making the region one of the preferred IT destination and attracting IT/ITES/BPO Units to the state.

He further stated that they will promote the export of software and services from the region thereby contributing to gross national exports, developing world-class infrastructure for IT/ITES/BPO industry, providing statutory services under Software Technology Park (STP) & Electronic Hardware Technology Park (EHTP) Scheme, providing ††high-speed data communication and other value added services and stimulate to create direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone for Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) at Adityapur on Saturday, Union minister said, Jharkhand will be made IT-BPO hub and ‘A fact that is aptly proven by the stupendous growth in exports by STP units from Rs. 52 crore in 1992-93 to more than Rs 3 lakh crore in 2015-16.

STPI has also played a phenomenal role in promoting Tier-II/Tier-III cities of the country. Out of 55 STPI centers, 47 centers are in Tier-II and Tier-III locations with an objective of an uniform and overall development of IT/ITES exports across the country’, minister noted.

The upcoming STPI centers would act as a resource centre for IT/ITES exporting units by offering general infrastructural facilities like ready to use incubation facility, High Speed Data Communication (HSDC) with uninterrupted data connectivity and other amenities required for export of software & services.

The new facility would be operational within 24 months and stimulate to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for the IT educated masses of this region, Ravi Shankar Prasad informed.

He further said STPI has also been instrumental in promoting IT exports from state of Jharkhand since inception of STPI-Ranchi in the year 2006.

Over the years, STPI Ranchi has played a very important role in promotion of the State as a preferred IT destination and act as single window agency for IT/ITES industry by putting new milestones in IT exports of the state.

Software exports from the state of Jharkhand which is recorded at Rs 45 crore during the year 2015-16 with cumulative exports of over Rs. 100 crore has brought state in the IT map of the country. STPI’s efforts have also created generation of direct and indirect employment and overall development of economy of the state, he added.

ďAbout 145 lakh people are directly associated with the IT industry, while more than one core are indirectly linked and it is becoming as one the biggest sector of the country and I want IT companies to be set up in Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and Assam,Ē said Ravi Shankar Prasad, adding, ďThe government has set target to make 6 crore people of the country digitally literate.Ē

On the occasion Sudarshan Bhagat, Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Saryu Rai, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, Government of Jharkhand, Bidyut Baran Mahato, MP, Jamshedpur, Laxman Giluwa, MP, Singhbhum, Pashupati Nath Singh, MP, Dhanbad, Raj Sinha, MLA, Dhanbad, Fulchand Mandal, MLA, Sindri, Dr.Omkar Rai, Director General, STPI, .K. Sudhanshu, joint secretary, Department of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India, Sunil Kumar Barnwal, secretary to Chief Minister and Department of IT, Government of Jharkhand, and Manas Panda, Director, STPI were present.
