Ranchi: Employees of liquor shops across the state have alleged that placement agencies are responsible for withholding their salaries, forcing them to sell liquor at prices higher than the MRP. Many employees claim they have not received their salaries for six months to a year, creating financial distress. The government has acknowledged the issue and Excise and Prohibition Minister Yogendra Prasad has stated that placement agencies must clear all pending salaries within five days, failing which legal action will be taken. The minister emphasized that these employees do not come under the jurisdiction of JSBCL (Jharkhand State Beverages Corporation Limited) but are the responsibility of placement agencies.
Prasad revealed that JSBCL itself owes Rs 67 crore to these agencies, which may have contributed to the delay in salary payments. He also warned that strict action will be taken against any liquor shop selling at prices above MRP, but acknowledged that the root cause lies in financial mismanagement by placement agencies. Earlier, nine excise officers were suspended over similar irregularities but were later reinstated. The minister has now ordered a thorough review of all past departmental proceedings.
JSBCL MD to be appointed soon
The post of Excise Commissioner-cum-Managing Director of JSBCL has been vacant since December 31, 2024, causing delays in liquor supply and outstanding payments to companies. Minister Yogendra Prasad assured that the position will be filled within two days, which is expected to resolve ongoing supply and payment issues. He reassured that despite temporary disruptions, there is sufficient liquor stock available in the state
