Jharkhand Govt issues cold wave advisory for public health safety

Ranchi: In view of the rising chill and the forecast of a cold wave, the National Health Mission and the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health have issued a public advisory for residents. The instructions aim to reduce the risk of severe cold-related illnesses, particularly hypothermia and frostbite.

Citizens have been asked to monitor weather updates and follow official information shared through radio, television and newspapers. The advisory recommends wearing adequate warm clothing, keeping indoor spaces heated and ensuring essential supplies such as food, water, fuel, a torch and necessary medicines are available at home.

The health risk is notably higher for older people, children, pregnant women and those suffering from chronic illnesses. They have been cautioned to avoid stepping outdoors during peak cold hours.

People have been urged to seek medical help without delay if symptoms of frostbite or hypothermia appear. These may include numb or discoloured skin, intense shivering, difficulty speaking, trouble breathing or loss of consciousness.

The advisory also includes guidance for animal safety, asking households to keep livestock and pets indoors during the cold wave. Authorities have appealed to residents to share weather-related information within their neighbourhoods to strengthen community awareness.

The government has encouraged people to remain careful, consume warm liquids, eat nutritious food and avoid unnecessary exposure to the cold to protect themselves and their families
