Jharkhand Bandh successful in Seraikela

Seraikela, Feb 5: Jharkhand Bandh effect was clearly seen in Seraikela district as markets and public transport remain disrupted making life difficult for the common man and daily commuters on Wednesday, Feb 5.

Effigies of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his father JMM president Shibu Soren were burnt by agitators on as Bandh in the state evoked mixed response.

The activists also set afire heaps of tyres in to disrupt road traffic. Sources said no untoward incident was reported from Seraikela-Kharswan district during the agitation.

Jharkhand Bandh was called by Kurmi Sangharsh Morcha and other organisations in protest against JMM’s decision to withdraw Savita Mahato, widow of former Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahato, as a Rajya Sabha candidate.

JMM had announced Savita Mahato’s name for the Rajya Sabha election following the death of Sudhir Mahato on January 22 but withdrew her name later.
