Jamshedpur: In her first board meeting, Mayor Sudha Gupta adopted a strict zero-tolerance approach toward corruption, negligence and administrative inefficiency, issuing a series of decisive actions and approving multiple large-scale development proposals aimed at transforming civic infrastructure and governance.
Demonstrating immediate action, a municipal corporation employee, Nirmal, was relieved of duties for alleged negligence. Show-cause notices were also issued to officials who remained absent from the meeting without authorization, reinforcing accountability within the system.
In a major administrative decision, the waste collection agency ‘Cube Company’ was terminated with immediate effect and payments for the past two years were withheld. The Mayor also directed officials to initiate an FIR in connection with irregularities linked to the agency’s operations.
On the development front, the board approved the procurement of 1,000 new streetlights along with instructions to repair more than 7,000 defunct lights across the city to improve public safety and urban infrastructure.
A series of civic improvement initiatives were also cleared, including the formation of a dedicated stray dog management team and construction of an animal shelter, demarcation and naming of residential colonies and renovation and repainting of all public toilets.
To enhance urban safety, proposals were approved for installation of CCTV cameras at major intersections under the “Safe Mango” initiative. Plans for a town hall, wedding hall and a new municipal corporation building were also discussed.
Further approvals included construction of traffic signals, foot over-bridges, parks and open-air gyms as well as cleaning and maintenance of water storage tanks across the city. A shelter home for daily-wage workers was also proposed to provide temporary accommodation for laborers.
Environmental and urban beautification projects such as riverfront development, renovation of Prithvi Park and Nature Park and construction of a walkway near MGM Hospital were also approved.
The board further sanctioned development of designated vending zones, installation of digital hoardings, construction of storm-water drains on Jharna Road and launch of a new waste collection and disposal system.
To improve urban planning, consultants would be appointed for assessing water supply issues and designing a systematic drainage network. Additionally, work on water pipeline connectivity through Jaipal Colony and linked reservoirs was approved.
The meeting also cleared proposals for mobile medical vans, new health centers, ambulances, road construction and drainage infrastructure upgrades.
Finally, a comprehensive review of holding tax and expansion of development works through CSR initiatives were also proposed, marking an ambitious roadmap for urban transformation under the Mayor’s leadership.
