Jamshedpur: Pipeline laying work has commenced on the National Highway-33 (NH-33) to upgrade the drinking water supply for the residents of the Mango Municipal Corporation area. This crucial segment of the Mango Urban Water Supply Scheme Phase-2, Part-B, will run through Jaipal Colony to connect directly with the main supply line.
Following the commencement of the project, Mango Municipal Corporation Mayor Sudha Gupta conducted a site inspection to review the progress and overall quality of the engineering work.
Project Highlights
- The Project: Mango Urban Water Supply Scheme (Phase-2, Part-B).
- The Work: Pipeline laying on the NH-33 Right-of-Way (RoW), connecting Jaipal Colony to the main grid.
- The Impact: Eradication of long-standing drinking water shortages for thousands of families across multiple civic wards.
- The Hurdle Cleared: Resolution of complex administrative and structural alignment clearances with national highway authorities.
Technical Hurdles Cleared for Long-Awaited Project
During her inspection, Mayor Sudha Gupta received detailed briefings from the on-site municipal engineers and representatives of the contractual execution agency. She issued strict instructions to complete the pipeline infrastructure within the stipulated deadline without compromising on safety or material quality.
The mayor revealed that the mega project had previously been stalled due to numerous technical and administrative bottlenecks. Specifically, determining the pipeline alignment along the busy NH-33 required intensive inter-departmental coordination, survey clearances, and legal permissions.
“Following persistent efforts, continuous departmental coordination, and proactive intervention from public representatives, all administrative hurdles have finally been resolved, and construction has successfully begun on the ground,” Gupta stated.
Permanent Solution to Mango’s Drinking Water Crisis
The extension of this supply network is viewed as a vital backbone for the region’s expanding water grid. Once the Part-B distribution lines are linked to the primary water treatment setups, it will permanently address the low-pressure and erratic water supply issues that plague several wards under the corporation’s jurisdiction.
Gupta reiterated that resolving the drinking water crisis in the Mango municipal area tops her civic agenda. She appealed to local residents to cooperate during the execution phase:
“I request our citizens to bear with the temporary inconveniences caused by the excavation and construction activities on the roads. These short-term disruptions are in the larger public interest to guarantee a sustainable, long-term drinking water network for our future.”
