Jamshedpur, July 7: A woman from a village in Jadugora was allegedly raped in Ghorabanda under Govindpur police station in Jamshedpur. Based on her complaint, police have arrested her neighbour, identified as Jyotish Kumar Bhagat.
The woman, who had marital disputes with her husband in Jhargram, said she was supposed to travel to Gamharia on July 3. She asked her neighbour to accompany her, but instead, he allegedly took her to a house near Govindpur Railway Station and spiked her water with an unknown substance before sexually assaulting her.
After regaining consciousness, the victim realized what had happened and informed her family. Police registered an FIR and Jyotish was taken into custody. The accused claimed he took the woman to his in-laws’ home with her consent. Police have conducted a medical examination and the woman’s statement will be recorded in court.
