Jamshedpur West seat: Banna�s wife takes on campaign as former legislature lands in hospital

Jamshedpur: With former MLA and Congress Party�s Jamshedpur West candidate Banna Gupta landing in hospital due to chest infection, his wife Sudha has taken over the charge of campaign. 

Sudha Gupta can be seen raising slogans in her husband�s favour across Jamshedpur West assembly constituency. Congress candidate Banna Gupta is being treated at Tata Main Hospital and doctors have advised him rest.

The 46-year-old is undergoing treatment at the hospital for chest infection. However, sitting at hospital�s bed he is busy designing poll strategy, leading his wife Sudha to take control of campaigning. He is also directing his supporters on which locality to touch and convince voters. He is in touch with his party workers.

Banna, a former agriculture minister during Hemant Soren�s tenure as Chief Minister said that he has been rigorously campaigning and fell ill due to infection. � I started campaigning early and covered major parts of my constituency however, I fell ill,� he noted. He added that voters of the constituency are missing him during campaigning but people are fighting for him.

Gupta, who was admitted to the TMH earlier this week and released on Tuesday, was re-admitted as he got no relief from infection.

According to him, he has requested doctors to discharge him at the earliest but the doctors are not willing to take any risk.

Banna�s wife Sudha took control of campaigning on Wednesday evening by touring Kunwar bustee in Mango  and also held a meeting with medical practitioners of that locality. She also garlanded the bust of Khudiram Bose in Mango. She again visited Sonari and Mango this morning.

� She is full of energy and is able to convince the voters. She is on a pad yatra spree and meeting voters to support her husband,� a close aide of the Congress candidate said.

Banna finished second to BJP�s Saryu Roy in 2005 but won in 2009 and again lost to Roy in 2014 by over 10,000 votes. It may be mentioned that Banna Gupta contested 2005 Assembly elections on SP ticket gave tough fight to BJP leader Saryu Roy and stood second Banna Gupta. He grabbed 34733 votes.

Gupta has expressed happiness after being declared the candidate for Congress Party. He said that the party has shown faith in him and it is the only secular party in the country and he will work hard to ensure its victory in the Assembly polls.

Of the 14 Assembly seats in Kolhan, seven are with the JMM, one each with Congress and Ajsu Party, and the BJP has five.The second phase polling for 14 seats will be held on December 7 in Baharagora, Ghatshila (ST), Potka (ST), Jugsalai (SC), Jamshedpur East, Jamshedpur West, Seraikella (ST), Chaibasa (ST), Majhgaon (ST), Jaganathpur (ST), Manoharpur (ST), Chakradharpur (ST), Kharsawan and Kolebira (ST).
