Jamshedpur, Jan 20: Santosh Singh, a transporter from Mango, was shot dead on Sunday night in what appears to be a revenge killing tied to the murder of Pashupatinath Dixit, alias Dabbu Dixit, a decade ago.

The incident took place on Gurudwara Road in the Mango police station area, where Santosh Singh was gunned down by assailants believed to be seeking vengeance for the 2014 murder of Dabbu Dixit. The attackers, led by Rohit Dixit, the son of the slain man, are now under investigation.

The origins of this gruesome act date back to September 12, 2014, when Dabbu Dixit was shot five times in broad daylight by seven assailants on three bikes near his residence. Despite being rushed to the Tata Main Hospital (TMH) in a tempo by his family, he was declared dead.

At the time, the police arrested five individuals, including Jitendra Singh, the then Congress Trade Cell District President and his brothers Santosh Singh and others, who were charged in connection with the murder. An FIR was filed based on the statement of the victim’s wife, Dolly Devi, naming Jitendra Singh, his brothers and two unidentified accomplices.

The police now believe that Santosh Singh’s murder is an act of revenge for Dabbu Dixit’s killing. On the night of the incident, Singh was preparing for his niece’s wedding when the assailants surrounded him and opened fire. In a desperate attempt to escape, Singh fled to a nearby house, but the attackers followed him and fatally shot him inside the residence.

The police are now investigating the connection between the two murders and have intensified their efforts to capture the individuals responsible for this brutal act.
