Jamshedpur Traffic police to prepare traffic action plan, meeting with Durga Puja Kendriya Samity held

Jamshedpur: The traffic police held a meeting with a delegation of Jamshedpur Durga Puja Kendriya Samity (JDPKS) at Sakchi today for detailed
traffic action plan for Durga puja.

Traffic DSP Shivender Singh they have traffic thanas at Golmuri,
Sakchi, Bistupur, Mango and Jugsalai. As per the plan the
officer-in-charges of the respective thanas will be visiting the
respective puja pandals located near important roads on Saturday,
Sunday and Monday to streamline parking spots, route barricading,
traffic diversion and other aspects for smooth traffic flow. He said
that they will hold a meeting with all the traffic thana officials on
Tuesday and finalise a detailed traffic action plan for Durga puja by
Tuesday evening.

Incidentally, there are nearly 30 crowd-puller ones (out of a total
of 311 licensed puja committees) which attracts huge footfalls of
visitors during the Durga Puja.

In the wake of ever increasing number of the vehicles in the city,
especially the two wheelers, and floods of people thronging the roads
during the five celebrated days of Pujas the traffic police finds it
too, difficult to control the traffic movement on the busy streets.
Besides, with limited strength of the traffic police personnel the
department finds itself in mess during the hectic period.

Two dozen NCC cadets are likely to be deployed, if at all they are, in
the streets that attract maximum vehicles, precisely on those roads
that connect to popular Puja pandals of the town.

For example, the Kharkhai Bridge, the major link between Steel city
and Adityapur, that witness sea of vehicles during the Pujas, demands
additional force to control vehicular traffic. Though, the Seraikela
Kharswan district administration has banned plying of heavy vehicles
on the ‘badly shaped’ Kharkhai Bridge during the Pujas.

Nonetheless, vehicular movement in Telco (HS road), Sonari (near
Kagalnagar), Sakchi (Aam Bagan and Kasidih), Bistupur (Rani Kudar),
Kadma (Rankini Temple), Burmamines and Bhuiyandih are most likley to
draw heavy crowd and traffic personnel would face the problem in these
areas.

“The sole purpose behind seeking cooperation from NCC cadets is to
ensure free movement of vehicles during the five hectic days. And, the
motto is to go for accident free pujas. But, the onus lies on the
revellers too, who should practice traffic rules while plying vehicles
on the busy roads,” said, a traffic police official.

Notably, NCC last year carried out ‘ puja duty’ at specific pandals on
the request of the puja organisers but, this year they have not
received any official communique from the district administration, as
far as traffic duty is concerned.
