Jamshedpur School Admissions: Lottery for Entry-Level Classes Begins January 5, Results on January 17

One Lakh Applications for 8,500 Seats

Jamshedpur, Jan 4: The lottery process for admission to entry-level classes—Nursery, LKG, and UKG—in private schools of the city will begin from January 5. This year, an unprecedented rush of parents has been witnessed, with nearly one lakh applications received for just 8,500 available seats across 40 private schools.

The first phase of the lottery will be held on January 5 at KSMS Golmuri and ADLS Sunshine School, Kadma. Thereafter, lotteries will be conducted at different schools on scheduled dates. According to the education department, the maximum number of schools will hold their lotteries on January 9 and January 12. The entire lottery process will continue till January 15.

After the completion of the process, all schools will simultaneously announce the results on January 17, which falls on the third Saturday of the month. The list of selected students will be displayed on school notice boards and uploaded on the respective school websites. On the same day, schools will also inform parents about admission dates, required documents, and admission fees.

Meanwhile, discussions have already begun among parents over a possible hike in private school fees. Sources indicate that fees may increase by 10 to 20 percent this year, adding to parents’ concerns.

To ensure transparency in the admission process, the education department has issued strict guidelines. District Superintendent of Education (DSE) Ashish Kumar Pandey  said that one supervisor has been appointed for each school conducting the lottery. He also made it mandatory to videograph the entire lottery process. All schools have been instructed to conduct the lottery strictly through computer software and submit complete details of the software to the School Education Department in advance.

With the number of applications far exceeding the available seats, anxiety and excitement are running high among parents. Many have applied to multiple schools in hopes of securing admission for their children. The education department has assured that a transparent and fair lottery process will provide equal opportunity to all applicants.
