Jamshedpur: The city on Wednesday experienced a significant spell of monsoon activity as the city recorded 68.8 mm rainfall, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas and triggering a state of alert across the East Singhbhum district. According to the Meteorological Department, Ranchi, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue in the district from 8:30 am on June 18 till 8:30 am on June 19.

In view of the forecast, the district administration, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi, has issued a strong advisory urging all residents, especially those living along the banks of the Kharkhai and Swarnarekha rivers, to remain alert and prepared for possible emergencies. The rivers may see a sudden rise in water level, increasing the risk of flood-like conditions in the surrounding areas.

Satyarthi emphasized that ensuring the safety of citizens remains the top priority of the district administration. He appealed to people in flood-prone and low-lying areas to shift to safer higher ground if the situation worsens. The administration is closely monitoring the rainfall situation and has kept all relief and rescue mechanisms ready for rapid response.

All officers of municipal bodies, Block Development Officers (BDOs), and Circle Officers (COs) have been directed to stay alert, conduct regular field inspections, and make all necessary preparations to deal with the rainfall and its possible consequences. Special attention is being given to urban drainage systems, village roads, and vulnerable pockets near riverbanks.

In a public advisory, the district administration urged citizens to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. People have been advised to avoid venturing near riverbanks, drains, or waterlogged zones. In case of any emergency, residents are advised to immediately contact their local municipal bodies, block administration, or the nearest police station.

The administration has placed its relief and rescue teams on alert mode, ensuring quick deployment in case of waterlogging, landslides, or any other rain-related hazard.

Important Safety Instructions for Citizens: Avoid visiting or standing near riverbanks and drains. Do not step out of the house unless it is absolutely necessary. In case of waterlogging or emergencies, immediately contact local authorities, municipal offices, or the nearest police station. Follow weather updates and administration advisories through official channels. Cooperate with the administration and help elderly, children, and vulnerable individuals during emergencies.
