Jamshedpur: India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued a forecast of rain in Jharkhand later this week. Both IMD’s Ranchi and Patna Met Centres issued the rain forecast because of a western disturbance which would pass through northern parts of the country resulting in adverse weather conditions and unseasonal showers.

” We are expecting rains in Jharkhand around February 3 and 4  because of the western disturbance.  Several pockets in   north-western, central and south-western Jharkhand will experience light showers. The cloud formation and incursion of moisture into the atmosphere will result in rise in minimum temperatures,” said, a senior IMD scientist at Ranchi office.

Weathermen said an active western disturbance is very likely to hit northwest India from February 2.  Cyclonic circulation is very likely to form over western Rajasthan on  February 3. In addition, moisture feeding on the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal to northwest India at lower & middle tropospheric levels is also very likely on  February 2 and 3.

The official said that the northwesterly winds would continue to dominate in Jharkhand for the next 72 hours which will prevent minimum reading from rising much above normal limits.

Issuing a forecast of rain the  Ranchi Meteorological Centre said thunder squall activity was also expected at a few isolated pockets in the next 24-hours. ” Today’s chart analysis and other observations suggested cloud formation and heavy moisture incursion in Jharkhand due to the cyclonic circulations. We have issued a warning of thunder squall at a few isolated pockets during the next 24-hours, with wind speed reaching about 50 Kms per hour,” said a senior official at the Ranchi Met Centre.
