Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur, Seraikela and other parts of Kolhan witnessed thunderstorm and rain this evening resulting in relief from sweltering heat.

The local IMD centre in Jamshedpur recorded 19 mm of rain while adjoining Seraikela received around 22 mm of rain. Several parts of West Singhbhum
Ghatshila in East Singhbhum and Khunti also witnessed light to moderate showers.

“As per our study a cyclonic circulation over central parts of south Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood now lies over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar extending
upto 1.5 Kms above mean sea level. Another cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh today shifted to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. These two systems resulted in rain at some places in southern and north-eastern Jharkhand,” said Upendra Srivastava, a senior official at the Ranchi Met Centre.

According to Srivastava, the cyclonic circulation over north Odisha extending upto 0.9 Km above mean sea level has become weak, otherwise it would have resulted in more showers.

Weathermen, however, hinted that the day readings were expected to witness a rise after the next 24 hours.

“We do not see any strong sytem which would impact Jharkhand’s weather after the next 24 hours. Maximum temperature would gradually witness a rise
resulting in increasing heat,” said a duty officer at Ranchi.

A low pressure trough coupled with a depression in northern Bay of
Bengal resulted in rainfall at many places across the state.

“The rainfall was due to the impact of the depression and the low
pressure trough over the state. The intensity of rain will increase in
the next 24-hours. Several parts of the state is expected to get
moderate to rather heavy rainfall in the next 24-hours due to the
impact of the depression which is going to hit Bangladesh this
evening,” said Patna Meteorological Office director A. K Sen.

However, for the average citizens of the Industrial town the shower has brought relief from the scorching sun. The entire Kolhan division has been reeling under heat wave for the last two weeks and Wednesday shower has indeed given them the reprieve.
