Jamshedpur, April 13: The residents of Mahanand Basti in Telco are reeling under frequent power cuts round the clock. They have decided to go on an indefinite agitation to get their problem noticed by the authorities concerned.
As per local residents, electricity supply is barely available for five to six hours in a day to Mahanand Basti. As a result, most of the household chores are adversely affected. Children are the worst affected as they are unable to study after evening. Even in the day time, students find it difficult to study in the absence of electricity as a majority of households do not have a power backup, said the residents.
With the mercury levels reaching 43 degree Celsius, the local residents are disappointed by the current situation. A local women’s committee had handed over a memorandum to the electricity department officials in October last year but no action was taken to improve power supplies. This has led the residents to mull over agitation plans.
