Rs 1cr Weed seized from abandoned SUV in Jharkhand’s Chatra

In a major drug bust, police in Jharkhand’s Chatra district seized 164 kilograms of contraband ganja on Tuesday. The market value of the seized consignment is estimated at around ₹1 crore.
The recovery took place in the Sadar police station area during a routine vehicle checking drive. Officers signaled a suspicious SUV to stop after acting on a specific tip-off.
Instead of halting, the driver sped past the checkpoint to evade capture. Police immediately launched a pursuit to intercept the fleeing vehicle.
The occupants drove toward a nearby river before abandoning the vehicle. They subsequently fled into a dense forest to escape into the cover of the woods.
A thorough search of the abandoned SUV led to the discovery of 82 plastic packets. SDPO Sunny Vardhan confirmed the packets contained 164 kilograms of high-grade ganja.
Investigating officers noted that the seized SUV carried a Uttar Pradesh registration number. A dedicated manhunt is currently underway to track down and arrest the escaped smugglers.
