Jamshedpur picnic spots under scanner, special arrangements at dams

Jamshedpur: In view of the threat of the third wave of Covid-19, apart from the Dimna lake area, special security arrangements have been made at Narwa lake in Jadugora and at Burudih Dam in Ghatshila. Every year, from mid of December to the end of January tourists from the different parts of the state and also from neighbouring Bengal come here for a picnic at Dalma hills, Dimna lake, Burudih Dam, Galudih resort, Narwa, Jubilee Park and Hudco Lake.

According to a police official, apart from the Dimna lake area, special security arrangements have been made at Narwa lake in Jadugora and at Burudih Dam in Ghatshila.

The district police have pressed into service cops on the motorcycle for patrolling the picturesque Dimna lake area this picnic season. The initiative is aimed at providing better security to the tourists as well as the picnickers who throng to this tourist destination in large numbers around this time.

Revealing about the special police arrangement, the official said that as many as 12 motorcops and 30 policemen are being deployed at the Dimna lake and its vicinity where people tend to visit while coming for the sight seeing.

“The initiative will ensure vigilant against eve-teasers, drunkards and other anti-socials, the police men will be deployed at strategic locations across the tourist destination,” he said.

He pointed out that the motorcops – two trained policemen in each of the 12 bikes — will be equipped with wireless sets, alcohol testing equipment and pistols.  The policemen to be deployed at the strategic locations will be carrying batons, just to ward off the rowdy elements and control the crowd.

According to the senior police officer, the special security arrangement by the district police will remain effective till January 26, the period during which the people, especially the picnickers, tend to visit Dimna.

“The idea precisely is to keep a check on rash driving and prevent miscreants from creating trouble to the revelers on the street and near the parks,” said the officer. The police will also act tough with people driving in an inebriated state of mind and with hoodwinks driving vehicles using police and press stickers.

The district women cell personnel, in assistance from the local police station, will carry out mobile duty to get hold of eve-teasers, if any, inside the park and outside.
