Jamshedpur: A peaceful campaign against religious conversion will be launched on December 14 with prayers before Sri Akal Takht Sahib, leaders of the All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) announced. The initiative aims to counter the rising trend of inducement-based conversions through non-violent and community-driven efforts.
Federation’s East India President Satnam Singh Gambhir said that former AISSF President and senior Akali leader Sardar Karnail Singh Pir Mohammad made several key announcements in the presence of former Federation President Bhai Manjit Singh and other senior leaders. Pir Mohammad stated that when he stepped down from the leadership of the AISSF years ago, the organisation had come under the charge of Advocate Parminder Singh Dhingra, who passed away recently. With no new president appointed since, the ten-member Supreme Council of the Federation (Pir Mohammad group) convened and initiated a process of organisational unification.
In a significant development, the council announced the appointment of Bhai Kanwar Charat Singh—nephew of Amar Shaheed Bhai Amrik Singh and son of former AISSF President Bhai Manjit Singh—as the Joint President of the All India Sikh Students Federation. Pir Mohammad said unity was urgently needed within an organisation built on the sacrifices of martyrs. He added that under Kanwar Charat Singh’s leadership, the Federation had already led youth awareness efforts in schools and colleges and actively participated in struggles such as the farmers’ agitation, flood relief in Punjab, and student movements at Punjab University.
Pir Mohammad emphasized that strengthening unity among various Sikh organisations would greatly empower the Federation. He said the AISSF has historically been at the forefront of safeguarding Sikh interests and has contributed significantly across social, political, and cultural fronts. He urged leaders such as Bhai Amarbir Singh Dhot (Sikh Students Federation–Mehta), Bhai Daler Singh Dod (Sikh Students Federation–Grewal), and members of the AISSF (Khalsa) to join the unity efforts.
He also criticised the traditional leadership of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), stating that personal interests and family priorities had weakened organisational trust and contributed to the party’s inability to form a government in Punjab. He stressed that only experienced AISSF leadership could help restore political stability.
