Jamshedpur, Oct 29: East Singhbhum district administration Saturday declared that no individual or political party would be allowed to organize any cultural programme at Sidhgora Town Hall ground during Chhath festival.

Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav said there was prohibition on organizing events without permission.

She said Chhath devotees may perform worship at the Surya Mandir premises as usual. No inconvenience would be caused to the devotees, she said.

Meanwhile, district administration here made elaborate security arrangements at the Surya Mandir precincts after a violent clash between the supporters of former Chief Minister Raghubar Das and Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy yesterday. RAF personnel were deputed all over the place to keep peace. Administration officials said the Chhath festival would be organized in the presence of magistrates.

The DC held a meeting with Raghubar Das at Circuit House to discuss about the incident at Surya Mandir campus. Raghubar and many other BJP leaders also visited the Surya Mandir this morning and held a meeting. Raghubar said the IAS and IPS officers were public servants and they should do what was expected of them in their official capacity.

“District administration has no right to dissolve the Surya Mandir Committee. The DC should work impartially in this matter. An attempt was made to disrupt peace at the temple premises yesterday. Certain people want to turn this temple into a political turf and foment discord among the people. This will not be tolerated,” he said.

Surya Mandir committee patron Chandragupt Singh was also present at the sun temple today.

Dhalbhum SDO Piyush Sinha visited the temple at 1.30 pm and spoke to Raghubar Das. DSP City Kamal Kishore was also present.
