The facility was inaugurated by Noel N Tata, Vice Chairman, Tata Steel on March 2, 2023.
The Nature trail has been designed on the concept of ancient forest names i.e Shrivana, Mahavana and Tapovana. The Jamshedpur nature trail houses several clusters of native species of trees planted as grooves with total tree plantations of around 21000. Meandering along the park is a 2.5 km long walking trail for nature enthusiasts interspersed with enough resting spaces. With open grasslands as camping site and mediation zones, Fruit and Bamboo orchards, restored wetland areas, viewing points apart from other attractions.
A vast expanse of waste land measuring about 21-acres has been converted into Jamshedpur Nature Trail for nature lovers in Jamshedpur. As part of its sustainability initiatives, Tata Steel envisaged an urban Waste land to Urban Forest concept and has successfully developed the same within a period of two years. The project was formulated with the broad objectives of increasing the green cover in Jamshedpur, build eco habitats in Jamshedpur, revive natural waterbodies and wetland areas and improve aesthetics in the residential areas by creating public open recreational spaces.
The Trail has a camping area spanning 2500 square metre and a walking track with 3.5 km long and 2 metre wide dimensions. It starts from Marine Drive and ends behind the petrol pump in Circuit House Area. People will be able to spend time with Nature. The trail is made with natural bricks.
The project introduces mini forest concept with dense tree plantation of native species and bamboo plantation with more than 21000 tree saplings and green cover comprising of myriad ecosystems. Jamshedpur Nature Trail design has been developed as three layers, namely, Shrivana, Mahavana, Tapovana having derived their significance from the forest classification in ancient times.
One layer is densely wooded while another one has foundation and water fall. The third sector has fruit-bearing trees and other facilities. All trees here bear QR code to inform visitors about their salient features. Security cameras have been installed all over the area. Here visitors will get to see natural flow of water and wetland. Other features and amenities in the park include street lights, benches and resting places, public toilets and an FRP bridge over the rivulet from CH area side to the Marine drive side.
Jamshedpur Nature Trail is in addition to 13.5 acres Kadma Biodiversity Park, 5.5 acres Dalma view point, 31 acres of CRM Bara ponds, 1.5 acres of Golmuri pond, 61 acres of Jugsalai Muck dump and ISWP ponds.
In its endeavour towards a sustainable future, Jamshedpur continues to voyage towards a greener and healthier tomorrow.
