Jamshedpur, June 2: The formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs) is on at an upward trend in Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) command areas as per the directive of Executive Officer, Dipak Sahay. More than 30 SHGs have been formed in the MMC command areas during the current fiscal. The SHGs comprise 10 women per group who deposit Rs 100 or more in the groups’ bank savings account every month. The amounts deposited are recorded in register and minutes of monthly meetings.
On completion of three months, an amount of Rs 10,000 is credited to each SHG’s savings account by the Urban Development and Housing Department as revolving fund to enable the groups to run small manufacturing units and other businesses.
MMC monitors the SHGs’ account transactions and collective income earning pursuits. MMC Executive Officer Deepak Sahay said, “Urban but economically weak women living in slum areas can join the SHGs as these provide opportunities for self employment to enhance their economic condition. They will also be provided support to start small businesses and earn more for financial stability.”
The SHGs were formed through camps organized by MMC in various slum areas. More than 30 SHGs were formed during such camps in localities like Dimna Basti, Sankosai, Ulidih, Pardih, Baliguma, Repeat Colony, Azad Basti, Zakir Nagar, Sukna Basti, Deepasahi, Daigutu and other places. The MMC camps were organized under the supervision and coordination of CO Pushpa Toppo, Urmila Devi, Nandi Purty, Lalita Laguri, CRP Lakshmi Kalindi, Ruby, Gayatri, Sheela Devi, Romani, Tanu, Pratima, Mumtaz Manorama, Ruby, Mamata and others.
