Yadgir (Karnataka): A horrific head-on collision between a car and a private bus claimed six lives on Friday after both vehicles erupted into flames in Karnataka’s Yadgir district.
The six victims, all traveling in the car, were burnt alive at the scene. Local residents managed to rescue two other occupants from the mangled vehicle; both sustained serious injuries and remain hospitalized, with one reported to be in critical condition.
According to police, the accident occurred near Devapur in Surpur taluk. The car was heading toward Raichur from Yadgir when it struck a private bus traveling from Bengaluru to Kalaburagi. The impact triggered an immediate blaze that completely gutted the car and incinerated the bus.
Fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire, while Surpur police launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Authorities have not yet identified the deceased or confirmed the exact cause of the collision.
This tragedy follows a similar incident on December 25, 2025, when a sleeper bus caught fire after hitting a truck near Hiriyur on National Highway 48. That accident killed six passengers—identified as Bindu V, Grema, Manasa, Navya, and Rashmi Mahale—along with the truck driver, and injured 28 others.
