Jamshedpur: Molestation accused released from Telco Police Station, ignites controversy

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, Dec 26: A youth, accused of molesting a girl near the Labor Bureau roundabout in Telco, was beaten by locals on Tuesday evening around 6 PM before being handed over to the police. Despite the seriousness of the case, the police released the accused from custody.

Instead, the Telco police registered an FIR against five of the girl’s relatives for assault and injury based on the accused’s complaint. The girl’s family expressed shock, questioning how the accused, who allegedly engaged in obscene acts and grabbed the girl’s hand in public, was released. They pointed out that the assault was carried out by passersby, not the girl’s relatives.

On Wednesday, the girl’s mother visited Telco police station seeking updates on the case. Upon discovering that the accused was no longer in custody, she confronted the station in-charge, leading to a heated exchange. A video of the incident was circulated online, prompting a complaint on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). In response, Jamshedpur Police assured the public that the matter was under investigation.

The case has now reached the Chief Minister and senior police officials, with City SP leading the investigation. Public attention remains focused on the actions of senior officers as the matter escalates.
