Jamshedpur: On Saturday, Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy visited Rupnagar, Nirmalnagar A, Nirmalnagar B, Nirmalnagar C, Zahira Basti, and other areas in Sonari to meet with local residents and address their concerns. Hundreds of women approached him with various issues, primarily related to the lack of drinking water and blocked drains in the area.
“Many settlements have water pipes laid, but the connections are still not given. Tata Steel UISL is charging an exorbitant fee of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per connection, and residents are struggling to get water to their homes,” said one of the locals. Additionally, the blocked drains have caused water to accumulate in several areas, leading to foul odours, especially under flats in Mahua Apartment and Kakoli Apartment.
In response, Saryu Roy assured the residents that he would meet with Jusco officers to discuss water connections and address drainage issues. “I will ensure that a special plan is made for this area, and all drains are cleaned. The roads, which are broken, will also be repaired,” said Roy. He emphasized that people living in these colonies have the right to a better quality of life, and he is committed to resolving their problems.

Saryu Roy to inspect Mango drinking water project
Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy visited several areas of Mango on Saturday to inspect the on-going issues with the Mango drinking water project. Residents, including those from Kumarum Basti and Haldhar Apartment, complained that they were not receiving water from the project despite its completion.
“I am ashamed that the Mango drinking water project, built at a cost of more than Rs 100 crore, is not delivering water to the people’s homes,” said Roy after speaking with the Executive Engineer of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department. The engineer attributed the issue to problems with the intake well.
Roy also spoke with Municipal Corporation officials, who explained that the water pumps installed for the project often get damaged or burn out. “I had already instructed officials to purchase additional pumps for all tanks to prevent such disruptions,” said Roy. He committed to visiting every inch of the Mango drinking water project on Monday and Tuesday to address the shortcomings and ensure a reliable water supply for residents.
